Emmys 2021 Winners: See the Full List Here

With attendees at cocktail tables and a strictly limited guest list, there was a cozy intimacy to Sunday night’s Emmy awards— maybe even more so when the same handful of shows won so many of the awards. As widely expected, it was a big night for The Crown and Ted Lasso, which won the top drama and comedy prizes, respectively. The limited series category spread the wealth a bit more, making room for a statue for I May Destroy You and several for Mare of Easttown, but ultimately giving the top prize, and the final award of the night, to The Queen’s Gambit.

The cast and crew of The Crown stayed up late together at a watch party in London, and theTed Lasso team took up multiple tables in-person in Los Angeles, so it was easy to see which shows would soon be dominating the night. The Mare of Easttown team, seated directly behind the stage, broke out early with supporting wins for both Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters, followed up by Kate Winslet’s win for actress. And the comedy category, with all the Ted love, turned into a bit of a horse race, with Hacks winning for writing and directing, in addition to the long-expected actress win for star Jean Smart. Though it was the only prize the show won, the writing award for Michaela Coel for I May Destroy You earned a huge ovation within the room, and a sigh of relief from fans who worried the show might get snubbed again.

It was a big night for the expected frontrunners in several categories. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver took home two awards in the variety series category, RuPaul’s Drag Race won its fourth statue in a row in for competition series, and Saturday Night Live won for variety sketch series.
