Cardi B, Lady Gaga, Kacey Musgraves and Childish Gambino were the biggest winners at the 2019 Grammys, picking up more than one award each.
British artists Dua Lipa and Ella Mai were also among the winners, with Dua Lipa winning best new artist and Ella Mai picking up best R&B song for “Boo’d Up.”
Cardi B was the first ever solo woman to earn Best Rap Album with her musical offering, Invasion of Privacy.
Despite the successful night, many of the biggest names in the industry were not in attendance including Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift and Bradley Cooper, whose other work commitments stopped them from taking their place in the audience.
However, Ariana Grande’s absence was a result of a disagreement with Grammy producer Ken Ehrlich.
Meanwhile, former First Lady Michelle Obama made surprise appearance at the ceremony when she walked on stage with Jada Pinkett-Smith, Jennifer Lopez and Lady Gaga and spoke about the importance of music.
