If you’re curious about a pink colored coffee or have heard of the Pink Velvet Latte from Dunkin Donuts and want to make it at home, you can now!
I recreated the Dunkin Pink Velvet Latte for this delicious and beautiful pink coffee to celebrate Valentine’s Day. It’s also naturally colored!
What is a Pink Velvet Latte?
The Pink Velvet Latte is a seasonal coffee drink from Dunkin Donuts. Along with the Pink Velvet Macchiato, these two coffee drinks are pink – perfect for Valentine’s Day.
The description of the Pink Velvet Latte is Dunkin’s espresso with red velvet cake flavor and topped with whipped cream, mocha drizzle and a hot chocolate powder.
To make it at home, I brewed espresso with a moka pot. (You can use a Dunkin coffee like their Dunkin’ Original Blend Ground Coffee.)
Red velvet cake flavor is a red chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting. To put this in the coffee drink, I mixed cocoa powder and cream cheese with milk for a creamy and chocolatey red velvet cake flavor.
Lastly, for the topping I also used whipped cream and a dark chocolate sauce. Plus, for the hot chocolate powder, I used cocoa powder.
Pink Velvet Latte Ingredients
- ¼ cup espresso
- 1 ½ cup milk
- 1 oz cream cheese
- ½ tbsp cocoa powder
- ½ tsp beet powder
- ½ tbsp powdered sugar
- Toppings: Whipped cream, cocoa powder, chocolate sauce
Tips for Making Pink Velvet Latte
I used a moka pot to brew espresso.
To make espresso, you need an espresso machine. However, if you don’t have one at home, I recommend using a moka pot. This brews a concentrated, espresso like coffee.
Check out our guide to making espresso without an espresso machine, including with a moka pot, French press or Aeropress.
I used almond milk. You can use skim or whole milk or for a dairy free Pink Velvet Latte, use a milk alternative like almond milk.
To add that red velvet cake flavor to this Pink Velvet Latte, I whisked cream cheese into the milk for a slightly creamy taste.
As mentioned, the Pink Velvet Latte Red features a red velvet cake flavor. Red velvet cake is typically just a chocolate cake made with red food coloring and cream cheese.
So to get the chocolate cake flavor, we’ll add cocoa powder.
I used beet powder to color the pink velvet latte naturally. You won’t taste the beet as the other flavors mask it.
If you don’t want to use beet powder, you can also use pink food coloring.
Taste the milk before turning off the heat. If you feel that it needs to be a little sweeter, add more powdered sugar.
If you order the Pink Velvet Latte at Dunkin, you’ll find the latte topped with whipped cream, mocha drizzle and hot chocolate powder.
I used whipped cream, Torani chocolate sauce and cocoa powder.
