I made it my mission to determine which ice cream brands and flavors are the best. You’re welcome!
What’s summer without a scoop or two of delicious ice cream to help cool you off? With the warm season quickly approaching, I decided to investigate which ice cream brands and flavors are the best. Here’s a list of my top five.
Whether you like plain and simple flavors like vanilla, or you prefer something a little more out of the ordinary, I’ve tracked down some of the best ice creams on the market—available right in your grocer’s freezer! Why not give one of these a try the next time you’re fending off the heat?
1. Haagen-Dazs Chocolate Peanut Butter
Who doesn’t love the deliciously rich and creamy combination of chocolate and peanut butter? I’ve had numerous chocolate and peanut butter ice creams before, but never has it been such a perfect pairing as in Haagen-Dazs’s version.
For about $3.50 for a pint-sized container, you’ll get a smooth and flavorful combination that isn’t too heavy on either flavor. In fact, each flavor blends together very well. It’s almost like you are eating a Reese’s peanut butter cup in ice cream form!
2. Dreyer’s French Vanilla
Dreyer’s (also known as Edy’s) has been around since 1928, and still makes delicious ice cream to this day. However, their French Vanilla ice cream easily takes the cake for best tasting vanilla-flavored ice cream on the market (at least out of the 20 or so I’ve tried!).
They aren’t kidding when they say their ice cream is rich and creamy—it is. For people who enjoy vanilla ice cream with a little kick, Dreyer’s french vanilla version is the perfect choice. The flavor is very smooth and natural, not at all artificial like some vanilla ice creams.
3. Ben & Jerry’s Cinnamon Buns
Ben and Jerry’s Cinnamon Buns Ice Cream is a delectable, rich, and creamy treat that is simply perfect for a hot summer day. It really does taste like an actual cinnamon bun (well, the ice cream version of it anyway!).
The cinnamon flavor is sweet without the nasty artificial aftertaste, and it’s subtle enough that it doesn’t overwhelm you. For a unique twist on an ice cream float, put a scoop or two in a tall glass of root beer for an interesting taste experience.
4. Soy Delicious Organic Butter Pecan
Can’t have dairy? No problem! Soy Delicious Organic Butter Pecan “ice cream” is your answer. If you’ve been missing the smooth, rich consistency of real ice cream but can’t eat dairy products, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by this organic non-dairy frozen dessert.
The flavor is actually very similar to true Butter Pecan ice creams, but without any side effects for those who are lactose intolerant or choose not to eat dairy for other reasons. Plus, there are actually good sized chunks of real pecans sprinkled throughout.
5. Breyers All Natural Chocolate Ice Cream
I have to admit, I am not really a fan of chocolate ice cream. It’s not that I hate it, but I’m definitely more of a vanilla girl. With that being said, I was a little nervous trying Breyers All Natural version.
Let me just tell you, I was surprised!
Not only did I enjoy the creamy chocolate taste, it’s actually been the only chocolate ice cream I would consider eating more than once or twice. It’s rich without being too over the top, and actually tastes better than most chocolate ice cream’s on the market today, I think.
For about $5 for a 48 oz. tub, you get a nice helping of inexpensive ice cream that tastes creamy, delicious and definitely helps cool you off.
