James has been a massive thorn on DeRozan’s side for years now, even when LeBron was still with the Cleveland Cavaliers and DeMar was with the Toronto Raptors. In fact, it was safe to say that King James was the sole reason the Bulls swingman wasn’t able to get significant team success during his time in Canada.
Despite years of several heartbreaks, though, DeRozan has nothing but respect for the Lakers forward and highlighted how proud he is to share the court with one of the best players to ever step foot on the NBA hardwood.
“He knows it. I’ve said it over and over. I got the utmost respect for LeBron. It’s definitely one of those situations that when I’m older I can say I played against that guy,” DeRozan said of LeBron, per KC Johnson of NBC Sports.
While DeMar DeRozan is back in the East after signing with the Bulls in the offseason–which means he wouldn’t meet LeBron James and the Lakers that much–he certainly didn’t waste his opportunities against one of his biggest rivals.
In their two meetings this season, DeRozan played like the All-Star he is and dropped 38 points each on both occasions. The Bulls won in both games as well to get the upper hand over LeBron and Co.
During their latest showdown, it was also DeRozan who delivered the game-winning dagger that gave the Bulls the lead for good.
Certainly, DeRozan has earned the respect of James as well.
