Over the years that Sister Wives has been on air many wild rumors have circulated. In the most recent episode of the TLC show, the Browns are addressing some of the bizarre rumors. In particular, the family shared information about childbirth and breastfeeding following the birth of Mykelti Brown’s new twins.
Mykelti Brown Gives Birth
Christine and Kody Brown share a daughter Mykelti Brown. Mykelti and her husband Antonio “Tony” Padron recently welcomed the birth of their newest children, twin boys, Ace and Archer. The family is featured on Season 19 of Sister Wives. Mykelti and Tony found it difficult to include the broken family in the pregnancy and birth process. The couple is excited to welcome their twins to the world.
Mykelti Brown is candid about her postpartum journey, however, not all family members agree with her. In the most recent episode of the TLC show Sister Wives Mykelti shares some of the bizarre traditions surrounding childbirth in the Brown family. In the October 13th episode of the show Mrs. Brown shares that following the birth of twins Ace and Archer, she consumed her placenta.
The Browns Consume The Placenta
Mykelti Brown is featured with her husband and children while discussing the birth with her father Kody Brown and mom Robyn Brown. She explains to her parents that there are health benefits to consuming the placenta after birth. Mykelti explains that the placenta is a key component to obtaining nutrients after birth.
The family discussed the consumption of placenta after birth. Mykelti says it has assisted her after giving birth and she is “Doing great”. Robyn chimed in that it “Helps like crazy” especially with postpartum depression. Mykelti Brown says that since having Ace and Archer eating her placenta “So far it’s helped a lot.” She has had her placenta encapsulated. Robyn revealed that she also consumed her placenta following the birth of one of her children.
Meri Brown is not on board with the consumption of the placenta after birth. Meri finds the process to be repulsive and questions its efficacy. During her interview, she was asked about this process, and she said “The whole placenta thing—no.” Meri said that she “heard people say it’s really healthy”, but she thinks “It’s pretty disgusting,” she continued. “No, no—in no way shape or form.”
Christine Brown said at first she found the concept of consuming the placenta to be “Disgusting”. However, she said “I wish so badly I would’ve known about eating your placenta—encapsulated placenta,” adding that she would have done it “in a heartbeat”. Eating the placenta is a polarizing decision and benefits and drawbacks are still being discovered.
Breastfeeding Each Other’s Kids
Another long-standing rumor in the Brown family is that they breastfeed each other’s children. During a confessional, Christine Brown is asked about this rumor. She says “So, there’s this rumor that in the church, a lot of the sister wives would sit around and breast-feed and swap kids around.” Christine clarified that this rumor is false. She commented, “That’s disgusting.”
Meri Brown was considered to be a second mother to many of Kody Brown’s other children. Meri had a different story than Christine. She says “I actually breastfed one of our kids that was not my own child.” Meri continued “And that was something that was kind of medically necessary at the time. But it wasn’t something that we did on a regular basis just for fun, just for kicks and giggles.”
Janelle Brown was not disgusted by the concept of breastfeeding another mom’s baby. Instead, she said “I’ve never breastfed another baby. I never had enough milk. I would’ve been hard-pressed to do that.” So rather than an issue of agreeing with it she couldn’t provide that for another baby that was not her own.
Robyn Brown acknowledged that the rumor was true. She said “Women would breastfeed each other’s babies in our culture. I’ve seen it plenty of times, absolutely.” She clarified it is not like they played “Musical babies,” but rather that it was done to support other mothers and babies.
