Phoenix Suns Chris Paul has been dubbed as the “Point God” throughout his entire career. Now, this historic milestone all but cements his spot among the league’s greatest.
Against long-time friend LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, Paul joined a group of players with 20,000 points and 10,000 assists in their career. No one else other than the Suns point guard has been able to do this.
Coming into the Suns-Lakers game, Paul only needed seven more points to join this never-before-seen club. He was already one of six NBA players to have had 10,000 assists in his career.
Paul and the Suns eventually cruised to a 115 – 105 win over the Lakers. He finished with 21 points, 14 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals on 50% shooting from the field.
It’s somehow fitting that Paul made a free-throw in order to break this record. The Suns guard is one of the elite free-throw shooters in the entire history of the league. That, along with his deadly midrange game and crafty dribbling, allowed him to be one of the best, if not the best, dual-threat point guards in the league.
No one else has come close to matching Paul’s blend of scoring and playmaking. There probably never will be another one like him. Congratulations to Paul, as he is looking to finally get the Suns to the promised land and win them a championship.
