Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi’s road to romance has been rocky, and it seems the tumultuous 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? couple has finally ended the worst relationship in franchise history. They first made their debut on 90 Day Fiancé: Before The 90 Days season 2 in 2018 after connecting online and meeting in person while filming. In January 2020, Angela and Michael tied the knot in Nigeria. Following their wedding, Angela returned to Georgia and filed for Michael’s visa in March 2020. However, the process faced major delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, keeping their marriage long-distance.
Angela and Michael’s problems didn’t stop with visa issues. While rumors continued to swirl that the pair broke up, Angela updated viewers on 90 Day Diaries in June 2022 that they were still awaiting approval for Michael’s spousal visa after two years. After cheating allegations, Michael’s disapproval of Angela’s weight loss surgery, and ongoing conflict, the two were broken up by early 2023. However, the pair appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 8, where the breakdown of their marriage reached its final stages. Angela Is Abusive & Racist
Angela has made more than one inflammatory, racist comment during her time in the 90 Day Fiancé franchise, prompting repeated attempts to get her fired from the show. One example in January 2023 was especially egregious. Angela sparked controversy with a racially insensitive post using derogatory language toward the Asian community. The since-deleted post featured both her husband, Michael, and her weight-loss surgeon, Dr. Michael K. Obeng.
Michael didn’t approve of Angela’s weight loss surgery, and his concerns were only exacerbated by her constant flirting with Dr. Obeng after the operation.
Additionally, her behavior toward Michael bordered on abuse. In a particularly troubling instance, Angela snapped at Michael during a call, questioning why he took so long to answer when it was 1 AM in Nigeria. She consistently seemed to manipulate the narrative to make Michael look like the villain. Angela also showcased control issues, a sign of abuse, in her insistence on tracking Michael’s phone and shaming him publicly.
There are too many instances of Angela’s verbal abuse to count. The star was seen berating him and using hurtful language regularly onscreen. During an incident on Michael’s birthday, Angela hurled insults at her Nigerian husband like “idiot” and “social media wh***” after he mentioned his financial struggles. One of the most dramatic moments between Angela and Michael occurred when Angela called Michael “ugly” during an argument after discovering he had female friends. Angela’s mistreatment is just the tip of the iceberg of their problematic relationship.
Michael Used Angela For A Green Card
Angela’s treatment of Michael was disturbing, but the reason he put up with the abuse was simple: he wanted a green card. Given that Angela’s behavior towards him was consistently terrible, it seemed Michael’s persistence in the relationship was primarily driven by his goal of securing permanent residency in the United States. Angela seemed to know this, hovering the green card over him like a carrot. She also allegedly made Michael quit his job so he could be available to her at all times, making him financially dependent on her.
Michael wasted no time in leaving Angela after arriving in the United States. He was first seen in the U.S. around Christmas 2023, confirming that he had managed to get his visa. Michael’s arrival was documented by 90 Day Fiancé Update’s Instagram account, with photos taken at the LAX airport. Despite Angela’s efforts to make Michael comfortable by traveling with him across the U.S., their relationship remained strained. Michael eventually went “missing” in February 2024, only to resurface later, claiming he feared for his life and did not want Angela to find him.
Michael & Angela Seemed To Hate Each Other
Angela and Michael seemed to hate each other, with little love lost between the pair. One of the primary sources of tension is their significant trust issues. The Georgian woman often accused Michael of infidelity and dishonesty, leading to repeated arguments. For instance, Angela has repeatedly confronted Michael about his interactions with other women on social media, which she perceives as flirtatious and inappropriate. However, she flirts openly with her weight-loss surgeon, so they’re disrespectful to each other.
Michael desired for Angela to be more submissive, in line with his cultural norms, which went against Angela’s explosive nature. Given they come from completely different countries, it’s easy to see why miscommunications consistently cropped up in their arguments. Angela was perceived as controlling and dominant, but Michael wanted to feel respected and independent. Maintaining power over Michael’s finances added to their blatant animosity.
With Angela berating Michael, controlling him and making racist commentary, it’s no wonder Michael didn’t care for the American woman. However, he put up with her to gain access to the United States. While using someone hated for a green card isn’t ethical, Angela seemed to bring some of Michael’s ire upon herself.
Michael Allegedly Cheated On Angela
Michael’s first cheating scandal occurred in 2022 when Angela alleged that Michael had been talking to a 31-year-old American woman, sharing screenshots and voice recordings as evidence. However, it seemed Angela fabricated the claims for drama on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season 7 to keep the couple relevant amid a strained relationship. Angela relishes her controversial persona and uses her increased notoriety to build clout.
Angela lashed out at Michael if he even looked at another woman or chatted with ladies online. She banned him from using Instagram to prevent him from finding another match. While it’s unclear if he ever actually physically cheated on her, his messages certainly bordered on emotional infidelity. However, it’s difficult to blame Michael for this behavior. He was being consistently mistreated by Angela.
Angela and Michael’s relationship has always been toxic, and the pair are the most problematic couple in the entire 90 Day Fiancé franchise.
